It was officially announced on Friday afternoon that the tag team grudge match between The Dudley Boyz and The Usos will be joining the Andre The Giant battle royal on the WrestleMania Kickoff Show next Sunday afternoon. With the rivalry essentially falling cold before the crowd even bothered trying to warm up to it, keeping it off of the main card is the smart decision.
The crowd wants to cheer Bubba Ray and D-Von. The team is trying to convince us that they aren’t just a nostalgia act but people aren’t buying it. Part of the problem is that they are programmed against a team in the Uso brothers, who have been losing popularly in line with The New Day‘s rise. With a face team that the crowd is ready to boo taking on a heel team that the crowd would rather cheer, both teams are put in a tough position and the reaction in Dallas will likely be just as murky as it has been for the duration of their rivalry.
What will save both teams? The answer isn’t too difficult. The Usos have to go bad. There are rumors that part of The Rock‘s role next Sunday is that he will be helping The New Day even the odds against the League of Nations. What if The Usos lose to the Dudleyz and then hit the main card to take out the New Day? It doesn’t appear that the match will be for the WWE Tag Team Championship, so it’s no harm, no foul in terms of Jimmy and Jey getting themselves a title shot. Plus if The Rock does show up it adds extra heat to the Usos. They’re going against family.
Roman Reigns could follow their lead and align with his cousins on the RAW after ’Mania and suddenly we really do see some change.
If you want the Dudleyz to get over as proper heels they have to ditch the silly camo and dress like they did add Bully Ray and Devon in TNA. Change the look along with the attitude and have them go after Enzo Amore and Big Cass.
The Kickoff Show match is just a placeholder. There are great opportunities ahead.
