15 Matches That WWE Should Not Have Done At WrestleMania

WrestleMania is supposed to be the biggest and best show of the year, filled with classic matches and epic encounters. Sometimes they miss the mark. Some have been low-stakes matches, but some have been World Title matches. Here are 15 matches that never should have happened at WrestleMania.

The First/Second Rounds Of WWF Title Tournament (WrestleMania IV)

The fourth annual WrestleMania is panned as one of the worst ever, thanks for the most part for the gamble they took by using the show to run a full tourney for the vacant title. Add on the joke that was the Andre-Hogan rematch and you have a bunch of matches unfit for Mania.

Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel - Blindfold Match (WrestleMania VI)

What an idea! Ruin a perfectly good match by making sure they can't see anything! Sure, The Model blinded The Snake, which led to the match, but this was the plan? The wrestlers stumbled around like idiots and the crowd sat on their hands.

Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice (WrestleMania VIII)

Wrestlemania.VIII - Hulk Hogan Vs Sid Justice...

Simply put, it should have been Hogan vs. Flair for the WWF Title. Politics from the Hulkster not only stole that dream match from the fans but also relegated the WWF Title match to mid-show because obviously Hogan has to be the main event. Flair vs. Randy Savage was awesome though.

Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna - WWF Title (WrestleMania IX)

Just… no. One of the biggest embarrassments in WWE history.

Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs. The Smokin’ Gunns - WWF Tag Team Titles (WrestleMania XI)

Billy and Bart Gunn? Sure! The only worthwhile thing Bart Gunn ever did at WrestleMania (or in WWE overall) was getting knocked out by Butterbean a few years later.

15 Team Battle Royal - #1 Contenders For Tag Titles (WrestleMania XIV)

WWE WrestleMania 14 - 15-Team Battle Royal

What a mess this was. You really have to look no further than WrestleMania cards over the years to see how little Vince McMahon has ever cared about tag team wrestling. The only exceptions were in 2000 and 2001, and it was the same match both years.

The Undertaker vs. Big Boss Man - Hell In A Cell (WrestleMania XV)

Not only was nobody interested in seeing the Big Boss Man take on The Undertaker, but it was even less impressive when they decided to have ’Taker literally hang him from the cell with a noose in order to depict a murder at WrestleMania.

Chyna vs. Ivory - Women's Title (WrestleMania X-Seven)

WWF Chyna vs Ivory [WrestleMania X7]

The experiment of putting Chyna in the Women's Division was not well received, and rightfully so. They almost did something good with the Lita feud, but sadly neither woman could carry a match. Ivory was wasted and disrespected and was not given the WrestleMania moment she deserved.

Edge vs. Booker T (WrestleMania X8)

Wrestlemania.18 - Booker T Vs Edge

WrestleMania X8 was the definition of a one-match show, and this wasn't the match. Edge got an endorsement deal with a Japanese shampoo company and Booker T was jealous. Really. This is something that happened.

The Boogeyman vs. Booker T & Sharmell (WrestleMania 22)

Poor Booker T. What did he do go deserve this treatment? The last true WCW Champion never really got that fair shake to perform at WrestleMania.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton - WWE Title (WrestleMania 25)

The storyline leading up to this match went from amazing to outlandish, and the match was one of the worst WrestleMania main events of all time. Not only did they get the "25th anniversary" part wrong, but they also apparently forgot that the main event was supposed to be good.

Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston & Santino vs. The Corre (WrestleMania 27)

Remember The Corre? The Nexus split up after John Cena destroyed them, and Wade Barrett started his own group along with Heath Slater, Ezekiel Jackson and Justin Gabriel. And they got a match at WrestleMania. Yeah, WrestleMania 27 was really bad,

Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler (WrestleMania 27)

The second entry from a terrible show, not only did they waste time in the build to this match and take up time on TV, but they actually put it on the card at Wrestle-freakin-Mania. They couldn't even give us one satisfying moment and have King give him the piledriver to end all piledrivers. And they had to do a rematch because Cole was the technical winner at WrestleMania.

Fandango vs. Chris Jericho (WrestleMania 29)

Chris Jericho returned specifically because he wanted to put a young, promising talent over by wrestling him at the biggest show of the year. The match itself was unspectacular but fine, and "Fandangoing" became a thing until WWE ruined it. This match and the RAW the night after were the beginning and the end of Fandango being relevant. Just a sad waste.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger - World Heavyweight Title (WrestleMania 29)

This was just a completely ill-advised idea from the start. Ignoring Swagger's arrest that derailed his push, the storyline was a horrifyingly poorly written sack of trash. If there's one thing WWE has never known how to do, it's an angle based on race, ethnicity, creed and so forth. This was no exception. Just gross.
