WWE Might Want To Retire The Divas Title And Rename The Division

Rumors have cropped up, right as we head into WrestleMania weekend, that WWE is ready to drop the word “Diva” from their vernacular. It looks like the company is going to do it immediately — as in the night after WrestleMania. Word has gotten out that WWE has already commissioned a new title belt to be made, with the speculation being that the design will be similar to that of the current WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt, just smaller and with a white leather strap.

Why the sudden change? It’s certainly not an unwelcome development, as many people have been calling for this to happen for years. Some, in fact, have been calling for the death of the Divas Title since the moment the pink and purple butterfly tramp stamp tattoo made its debut. Current champion Charlotte has been taking lots of interviews lately, and she has been very vocal about how she would like to see the division rebranded with the word “Woman” replacing “Diva”. Either she knew something or she is just getting an early Christmas present. Whichever it is, it’s a good scenario.

Getting a brand new belt, changing the name of the division and doing it on what most consider to be the most must-see episode of Monday Night RAW of the year is a big deal. That shows the kind of dedication that it still wasn’t quite clear WWE had invested in the young women who have been proving themselves night in and night out inside and outside of the ring. There’s also been speculation that Bayley is soon to be brought up to be a member of the main roster. That could even happen this Monday.

Will this rumored change have any impact in the 10-woman tag team match that was finalized this past Monday? It’s Total Divas vs. Team B.A.D. & Blonde, yet both teams are a mix of women who would be categorized generally as “Divas” and others who are wrestlers. Plus, Eva Marie was just called up! What could that mean? She’s a really weird x-factor in this whole situation. Will she be a part of the new Women’s division? Is she going to go back to NXT, showing that WWE may have just grabbed her for the week to bring a bit of shock value going into ‘Mania?

There are far more questions right now than there are answers, but we may learn everything in only a few short days.
