To the chagrin of the WrestleMania 32 crowd in Dallas, Roman Reigns speared Triple H in order to regain the WWE Championship for the third time in his career. Fans were disappointed with the main event and let out a smattering of boos after the bell rang, but you couldn’t tell by the reaction from Reigns. He had his daughter, Jojo, join him in the celebration.
There’s a large part of the WWE Universe that believes Reigns has been handpicked by Vince McMahon and the creative team as the next icon in WWE. This group of fans doesn’t feel like Reigns has done enough to earn that role and they’ve booed him on a number of occasions over the last year or so because of it.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here. With John Cena returning last night, WWE could begin a storyline that ends with a championship match between Reigns and Cena. There’s also Brock Lesnar who destroyed Dean Ambrose last night at WrestleMania.
Tonight’s Monday Night Raw should give us an indication of where the storyline will go next for Reigns. The good news for him is that no matter what happens, he will now always have winning the main event at WrestleMania on his resume, and no one will ever be able to take that from him.
