Bray Wyatt Injury Doesn't Have To Derail Face Turn

Fan pictures and videos were posted very quickly to social media earlier this week when Bray Wyatt appeared to have injured his leg. WWE confirmed the injury soon after, but there is still no word about the severity or how long it could possibly keep Wyatt out of the ring. Hopefully the answers are “not too severe” and “not very long.”

In the event that the so-called patriarch of The Wyatt Family has to spend any significant amount of time on the shelf, it would not spell the end of the world for him or his very fresh apparent jump to the good side. While it would be less demanding creatively to keep him on TV as a heel (sit in his rocking chair, talk a lot and have his boys do all the fighting), it is still doable with him advocating for the less corrupt.

With him physically active, the changes to the character are non-existent. Instead of beating up the smiling good guys he pulverizes the bad guys, just because he can. It’s another situation in which the crowd has wanted to cheer for him for quite a while, and now they have the chance.

The problem is that he’s hurt. If he’s only out of action for a few weeks, it’s not a big deal. Chances are that he, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman were going to break up the League of Nations at the Payback event. That could still happen, and it might even make for a better story if he’s relegated to sitting in his chair ringside while his boys go to war in a handicap match.

If Luke Harper wasn’t hurt this wouldn’t be a problem. He could keep the team afloat in the ring while Wyatt recuperated. He can’t do that now, so hopefully Wyatt’s injury isn’t a big deal. I’m hoping that the Bray Wyatt babyface turn ends up leading to a feud with a returning Harper, upset because he believes his mentor has strayed from what made him great.

Bray Wyatt being out long term could still work, because the crowd would go nuts for a surprise return. Strowman and Rowan would probably be better off back in NXT with Wyatt gone.

It’s all just speculation until we learn the severity of the injury. No matter what it turns out to be, though, there are many ways to still make the babyface turn work, both short-term and long-term.
