John Cena Returning At Memorial Day RAW

The man who refuses to take a break is on his way back, and he’s returning incredibly early as usual. John Cena and WWE confirmed that the former champ will be making his triumphant return to the squared circle on the most John Cena-appropriate day possible, Memorial Day. The return will be eight days after the Extreme Rules event and brings him back in plenty of time to get himself a prime spot on the June 19, Money in the Bank card.

Cena will need to do something in the meantime, so why not have him return on RAW to take the United States Championship back on a day that has exactly nothing to do with regular civilians like us? Cena, of course, included. He’ll say he doesn’t like that Ryback is the champ (assuming he takes it from Kalisto soon, which is likely) and that he wants to win it back for true Americans, even though it’s not Veteran’s Day (which would still be disrespectful, but they’ve done it before).

Where does Cena fit in when he returns? Rumors are going around that the big match at SummerSlam will be Cena challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The show being in Brooklyn is reason enough not to do the match unless WWE wants an absolute mess on their hands. Yes, there’s a chance that Reigns will be salvaged by then and the New York crowd will end up cheering him and booing Cena (the other way around is very unlikely). There’s also the chance that Reigns is in the same position he’s in now and both guys are met with a mixture of hatred and apathy. Not exactly how you want to close out your second biggest show of the year. But then, they had no issue going that way at WrestleMania, so that could be the plan no matter what.

Does Cena even bother with Alberto Del Rio and the remnants of the League of Nations? Maybe instead of going after the U.S. Title he instead puts that waste of potential to bed once and for all. For America!

It’s probably time to really start using Cena to push guys up to the next level.

Oh, sorry. That’s a silly sentence to type.

Cena will have plenty of guys to beat up on under the guise of making new stars. Come to think of it, that’s not really true. A match with AJ Styles needs to happen. That’s a given. Outside of that, there isn’t much for Cena to do that’s new. Stop Baron Corbin before he gets a chance to get going? Outside of Reigns and Styles, a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 and possibly rematches with Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens, there really isn’t much left to do.

Maybe he’ll figure out a way to get entered into the Global Cruiserweight Series.
