Alberto Del Rio Confirms The Imminent Demise Of The League Of Nations

In a recent interview, soon-to-be-former member of the League of Nations Alberto Del Rio confirmed that the group is set to be dismantled soon. He also stated that the main reason the group was created was in order to get all of them a spot on the WrestleMania card. That’s pretty sad, actually. Nevertheless, this may fit in with the theory that John Cena will be doing the dirty work on Memorial Day, which leaves the now three-man group about a month left.

What is the best use of them as a group for their remaining time? Why, losing to new tag teams, of course! I still think that Del Rio and Rusev have great chemistry in and out of the ring and would make for a really good tag team, but that’s probably a longshot at this point. In that case, the first thing that needs to be done, since Del Rio, Rusev and Sheamus are all busy this week on RAW in singles matches, is to have them lose to the team that is unsuccessful in securing the No. 1 contender spot at WWE Payback. Be it The Vaudevillains or Enzo & Big Cass, next week on RAW two of the League of Nations members have to go down clean to whichever team loses.

They should probably take a beating from Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, too.

After all is said and done it becomes clean-up time for all three men. Rusev is the youngest and hungriest. He’s got more charisma than anyone could have possibly expected and a babyface turn might not be the worst idea in the world. Why not have him turn on Sheamus and Del Rio instead of having Cena finish the job? Or maybe have him help Cena and they can shake hands because Rusev has finally found his way to the light? That would help Rusev with the anti-foreigner crowd and the rest would jump on board with good guy Rusev.

Del Rio would fit in best as a mid-card heel at this point, and thankfully for him, there isn’t a lot of rebuilding to do because he has still been fairly well protected. It would be very nice to see him bring back some of that fire he showed during his time on Lucha Underground. That would be a big positive.

Sheamus is a victim of career-long terrible booking. Whether he’s on the babyface or heel side, WWE never knows when to pull the reins and slow something down. Whether it be never-ending feuds with Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler or way too many matches with Randy Orton, WWE has consistently run his momentum into the ground. His return last year after WrestleMania as a heel (finally) was so promising, but they cut him off before he had a chance to redefine himself.

It’s a good thing that this faction is being disbanded, but it’s going to take some work to put together the pieces.
