Dean Ambrose Is In A Rut Since WWE Doesn't Know How To Use Him

Ever since WWE decided to take Seth Rollins into the mix as their top dog (or rat) for The Authority almost two years ago, it has been made clear that the priority among the former Shield members was him and Roman Reigns. The third man, generally considered to be the de facto leader of The Shield until the last month or two when the commentary team started to build up Seth Rollins in a rare bit of subtle foreshadowing, has largely been the odd man out.

That man, of course, is Dean Ambrose, who has received the best crowd reactions of the three men without any of the help his former mates received. Yes, he has had his share of matches for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and a couple main events are under his belt, but it truly looks like WWE sees him as a freak show act instead of a true future top guy.

There’s no shame in being a multiple time Intercontinental Champion and there’s no shame in being an also-ran, especially in the spot he has found himself in. Ambrose gets a good chunk of TV time, often performs in the main event matches on Smackdown and has not been lost in the shuffle.

That’s a very important distinction, however. He hasn’t been lost in the shuffle. He has just been placed back into the pile and shuffled around, put whatever a body is needed. It has turned him into a bit player.

Before going any further, it must be noted that he is very obviously in a much better position than many other men who also deserve a higher spot and while WWE could use him better, he still has an integral featured role.

Ambrose is just stuck. A feud and matches with Chris Jericho are great, but not necessarily the best use for either man. Even though he got an unexpected victory over AJ Styles at WrestleMania, Jericho was used very well to help introduce Styles to the WWE Universe and prime him for the spot he is in now, fighting for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Ambrose was the sacrificial lamb for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and could use a few good wins to get his footing firmly back in place.

A win over Chris Jericho is a good start, but where does he turn next? Will he go back to being Roman Reigns’ little buddy when he needs more help against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (and company) after The Usos turn their backs? Where else does Ambrose have to go? He could take on The Miz and go back after the IC Title again, but that’s a battle he cannot win. Ambrose is stuck in limbo.
