There are a lot of quick updates in the Purdue sports world. None of these stories merit a full-blown write-up so here’s the basics of what you need to know to keep up with Boilermakers athletics:

Kawaan Short has opted to return for his senior year. The talented defensive lineman was projected by some as a first day pick in this April’s NFL draft. His return will mean that Purdue will have a rock solid anchor to help stuff the run up the middle and put pressure on the quarterback. Short had 6.5 sacks last season.
Ex-Purdue basketball commit Derek Willis will announce his college decision Friday. All signs point to a Kentucky commitment. Willis is a 2013 (junior in high school) four star forward with high skill level and good athleticism. He has offers from Purdue, Indiana, Louisville, and Kentucky.
Purdue takes on Iowa at home on Tuesday night. If the Boilers want to even entertain thoughts of competing for a Big Ten title, games like this must be won. Purdue narrowly beat the Hawkeyes 79-76 in Iowa City when they they first met this season on December 28, 2011.
Purdue had another QB visitor on campus last weekend — Robert Gregory out of Chicago Simeon. The 6-2 dual threat quarterback is also considering Minnesota. Purdue already has 3 scholarships verbally accepted by QB recruits to enroll next fall and one preferred walk-on QB who has enrolled this semester. Keep in mind that with the exception of Austin Appleby, all of these recruits may be able to switch positions.
