Montreal Press Confirms Tim Tibesar to Take Purdue Defensive Coordinator Opening
Be careful when you tell others that Tim Tibesar is coming to Purdue. If your listeners jump the gun at the “Tim T…” sound, they’ll think your referring to the holiest of all quarterbacks, Tim Tebow. Not Tebow. Tim Tibesar.
This Tim comes from his latest stint with Canadian Football League team, the Montreal Alouettes, where he was Defensive Coordinator for one year and linebackers coach for the previous two years. The Montreal press broke the story late on Tuesday night:
Meanwhile, Tim Tibesar, the Als’ defensive co-ordinator, is headed to Purdue University, where he has accepted a similar position, according to Didier Ormejuste of RDS, who reported this information via Twitter. Late Tuesday, Als general manager Jim Popp confirmed the news in a text to Als Inside/Out.
The blog of a Montreal sports radio station also reported the news and was critical of the performance of Tibesar’s defensive unit, especially the last four games of the season where their opponents averaged over 38 points per game. On the bright side, the blog acknowledges Tibesar’s “excellent work” at Kansas State and shares that the Montreal Als’ defensive “injuries mounted” from week one of the season.
Prior to coaching in the CFL, Tibesar was Defensive Coordinator at Kansas State on Ron Prince’s staff. He also served as Special Teams Coordinator at K State prior to taking over as Defensive Coordinator. Tibesar played his college ball at North Dakota from 1993-1996 where he was a standout linebacker. Prior to joining Kansas State, Tibesar coached at the Division II level.
Tibesar will take over for departed Defensive Coordinator Gary Emanuel. His key players for next year’s defensive unit include defensive tackles Kawaan Short and Bruce Gaston, cornerbacks Ricardo Allen and Josh Johnson, and linebacker Dwayne Beckford. Purdue is still seeking a linebackers coach to complete its staff for the 2012 season.
