Purdue’s Keys to the Game Against Indiana
Published: 4th Feb 12 5:53 pm
Purdue tips off soon against the Indiana Hoosiers at Mackey. In order to extend their series lead to an even larger margin, the Boilers will have to do three things:
- Make Zeller uncomfortable. The freshman big man has had a stellar rookie year and played a big role in their wins against Kentucky and Ohio State. Purdue will have to give him the Meyers Leonard treatment and be physical with him to throw off his game. Travis Carroll, Robbie Hummel, Jacob Lawson, and Sandi Marcius all must play a role here.
- Prevent the coldspells. The Hoosiers have a productive offense. Purdue has an offense that is productive when it’s making its shots, but falls flat sometimes during long stretches of a game. If Purdue is to protect its home court against IU, they must keep attacking the rim and knock down their open shots.
- Stay on the shooters. The Hoosiers have a handful of prolific shooters that helped them knock off Ohio State and Kentucky. Jordan Hulls and Matt Roth are not afraid to launch the ball from deep, so Purdue must stay on those players at all times. In addition, Christian Watford’s size on the wing makes launching unobstructed threes easy for him. The Boilers can’t make it easy for any of these guys to shoot from deep or else it could find themselves on the wrong side of an offensive run.
