Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Derrick Ward has a visit scheduled today with the Houston Texans and possibly the Seattle Seahawks. Derrick Ward was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the start of the 2009 season and was expected to split time in the backfield with Carnell Williams last season. However, Carnell Williams performed at a higher lever than expected, as he recovered from his second knee surgery in two seasons and was the Buccaneers leading rusher last year.

Ward was released by the Buccaneers on Tuesday of this week after performly poorly on the field and Bucs head coach Raheem Morris called him out for showing up to camp over weight and out of shape. In the preseason, Ward rushed for nearly 2 yards a carry, he showed no burst or determination when carrying the ball. He simply appeared to be going through the motions and ultimately was unable to hold off second year running back Kareem Huggins for the backup role behind Williams.

So now he heads off to visit with the Houston Texans, who would likely play him behind Arian Foster and Steve Slaton. Perhaps the fact that he was cut by a team that he obviously thought would simply hand him the backup running back position, might motivate the former New York Giant back. Then again, maybe not.
