Bears LB Lance Briggs Plans On Wearing Red, White, and Blue Gear For 9/11 Tribute–Even If League Does Fine Him
After reaching the NFC Championship last season, the Chicago Bears have high expectations once again for the upcoming season and will square off against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Solider Field. While numerous teams have numerous plans scheduled for the 10th anniversary of September 11, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has a special tribute of his own and is ready to pay the fine if the league is against it.
Briggs posted numerous messages on his Twitter account Thursday night about his plans to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 by wearing special gloves and cleats during Sunday’s game against the Falcons. Of course, the NFL has a strict policy when it comes to players wearing special attire–so Briggs is going in with the approach that he’ll be fined no matter what for his tribute.
Despite the NFL’s strict rules, this is one of those situations where the league should make the exception and let Briggs do his tribute without a fine. Given the circumstances, it would be ridiculous for the NFL to take action over a tribute like this considering it’s safe to say Briggs isn’t the only player that wouldn’t mind paying a tribute to those we lost on that tragic day.
