With Jason Campbell Out With a Broken Collarbone, Will the Raiders Consider Starting Terrelle Pryor at Quarterback?
(Kelley L. Cox/US PRESSWIRE)

Nobody knew what to expect from the Oakland Raiders when they selected former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor in this year’s Supplemental Draft considering they already seemed set at the quarterback position. However, with the recent news of Jason Campbell suffering a broken collarbone against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, would the Raiders actually consider giving the controversial quarterback a chance at the starting job?

As of now, all signs point to Kyle Boller filling in as the starter until Campbell returns, but the Raiders know what he’s capable of as a quarterback and he’s certainly been nothing to brag about over his nine-year career. Boller did just what he needed to against the Browns (8 of 14 for 100 yards), but he’s received plenty of opportunities for starting jobs and it never worked out–which is why Oakland should be cautious about using him as Campbell’s replacement.

The Raiders obviously see something in Pryor if they were willing to surrender a third-round pick to acquire the former Ohio State standout and now that his five-week suspension is over–it may not hurt to use this week to see what he would be capable of at quarterback. Oakland has a favorable matchup against the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 before a bye the following week.

It’s still debatable whether or not Pryor is fit to be an NFL quarterback–but nobody can be certain without seeing what he’s capable of on the field. Whatever Hue Jackson decides to do for next Sunday, at least he can feel comfortable with relying on one of the best running backs the NFL has to offer in Darren McFadden on offense if the passing game struggles without Campbell over the next few weeks.
