As one of the three remaining teams that has yet to win a game so far during the 2011 season, there’s a good chance the 0-6 Indianapolis Colts will find themselves in good position for the “Suck For Luck”campaign and draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck in April. Obviously, this would cause a bit of controversy in Indy considering Peyton Manning doesn’t seem to have plans for retirement anytime soon, but the team’s former head coach believes the organization should consider trading their franchise quarterback if that becomes the case–just like the Green Bay Packers did with Brett Favre.

Marc Sessler of NFL.com reported on Saturday how former Colts head coach Tony Dungy was recently a guest on the The Dan Patrick Show and discussed how the Colts would have no choice but to take Luck with the top pick in April’s draft if given the opportunity. All signs point to Luck being the next big thing in the NFL and if Indianapolis finds themselves in a situation where Manning wants to play another three or four years–Dungy believes the team should consider trading the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Here’s what Dungy had to say on the show courtesy of Sessler’s article:

“I would see him competing and playing as long as he wanted,” Dungy said. “If it gets to the point to where, hey, he comes back and it looks like he’s gonna play three or four more years, and you say — we’ve got Andrew Luck, we’ve got an asset — we trade (Peyton).”

It was debatable whether or not Jim Irsay and company made the right move by providing Manning with a lucrative five-year deal worth $90 million–especially since his future is in jeopardy after all of the neck surgeries. Of course, this may only become an issue if the Colts continue to plunge and struggle to win games over their final 10 games–so this is only small talk for now.
