Report: Eagles and LeSean McCoy ‘Quietly’ Working on New Contract
(Brad Mills/US PRESSWIRE)

In just his third season, Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has proven to be one of the most valuable players at his position after recording 892 yards from the line of scrimmage and 10 total touchdowns over the first seven games of the 2011 season. While wide receiver DeSean Jackson appeared to be the next player on the team in line to receive a big pay day, it appears the Eagles may have plans to give their beloved running back a new deal first.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, McCoy and his agent have “quietly” been working on a new contract to replace his rookie contract–which expires after the 2012 season. McCoy is only making $525,000 this season and it appears Philadelphia would rather lock McCoy up now instead of waiting another year in case he continues to get better and becomes more valuable–so this is a smart move on their end.

However, if what Florio claims is true, this will certainly shake up things with Jackson’s situation. The wideout is in the final year of his rookie deal and has expressed interest in a new long-term deal for quite some time now–so the Eagles have to be careful about McCoy’s situation if they want to keep both players happy.
