NBC Chooses Lions-Saints For Sunday Night Football Slot During Week 13
(Chris Harris/US PRESSWIRE)

It’s been over a decade since the Detroit Lions have been in the playoffs and after a 7-3 start–there’s a chance Matthew Stafford and company will have that streak come to an end with the way things are going this season. Thanks to their impressive start, the Lions have earned themselves a slot in the Sunday night spot on NBC’s Sunday Night Football–which is a first for the organization.

According to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com, NBC has picked up the Week 13 game between the Lions and New Orleans Saints–which will be a key NFC showdown between two teams fighting for a playoff spot. While Detroit will most likely be fighting for a Wild Card spot since the Green Bay Packers will most likely win the NFC North, New Orleans hopes to remain on top of the NFC South ahead of the Atlanta Falcons.

Obviously, this matchup between the Lions and Saints will be much more exciting than the original plan of the matchup between the winless Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots. What’s even more exciting is this could easily be an early preview of a possible playoff matchup–but there’s no reason to jump to conclusions just yet.
