Report: Houston Texans Have No Interest in Pursuing Brett Favre
(Chuck Cook/US PRESSWIRE)

After losing both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart for the season, it’s safe to say the Houston Texans find themselves in a desperate situation for a quarterback to lead the team over the final five games of the regular season and playoffs. While rumors of yet another Brett Favre return swirled on Sunday, it appears the Texans aren’t desperate enough to make a call to the future Hall of Famer.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com indicated on Sunday night that how Peter King of Sports Illustrated made it clear there will be no Favre watch over the next week or so–especially since the Texans don’t want to deal with all of the media drama that comes with it.

From Florio’s article:

Peter King of Sports Illustrated explained during Football Night In America that Texans G.M. Rick Smith doesn’t envision pursuing Favre.  Smith said that the Texans likely won’t be interested.  “I don’t want to bring the circus to town,” Smith told King.

Likewise, Favre told King via text message (no photos, please) that the future Hall of Famer isn’t interested in returning, for similar reasons.  Favre also said that he hasn’t thrown a football in a month, which would make it harder for him to get ready to play.

Not only did the Texans deny their interest, but even Favre says he has no interest in returning to the NFL. So long story short–expect the Texans to sign another veteran quarterback this week that doesn’t go by the last name Favre.
