John Elway Still Not Sold On Tim Tebow As Broncos Quarterback of the Future
(Bruce Kluckhohn/US PRESSWIRE)

John Elway has enjoyed the Denver Broncos success after a disastrous 1-4 start as the team has won five of their last six games thanks to the emergence of Tim Tebow. While the former first-round pick shouldn’t be the only one receiving credit for the Broncos recent success, it’s safe to say he’s provided the entire team with the type of confidence they needed, but that doesn’t mean Elway is sold on Tebow as the quarterback of the future.

Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com discussed on Tuesday how Elway refuses to acknowledge Tebow as the quarterback of the future–indicating that the team’s future is right now during the 2011 season. At 7-5, the Broncos are currently tied with the Oakland Raiders for first place in the AFC West and nobody can explain how, but Tebow continues to find new ways to help this team win each week.

Obviously, Tebow is no ordinary quarterback and whether you love him or hate him–you can’t deny the fact that he’s a proven winner. With that being said, Tebow still has plenty to prove when it comes to being an effective quarterback of the NFL and the last thing he wants is to be just a one-hit wonder–so it’s no surprise Elway is afraid to call him the quarterback of the future for the Broncos.

Here’s what Elway had to say about Tebow being the quarterback of the future during a recent interview with 102.3 The Ticket courtesy of Smith’s article:

“I know everybody wants to know, but our future’s right now,” Elway said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “When you look at where we are, the future is the Chicago Bears. We’ve got three out of our last four at home. We’re coming off five of six wins. So, we’re excited to come home. I think the city’s excited about it, the fans are excited about where we are right now. The future is now and I think the key thing is for us to continue to keep focused on each game coming up and try to win this division and get in the playoffs and see what happens.”

As Smith pointed out in his column, Elway seems to be doing everything possible to avoid naming Tebow the team’s quarterback of the future and just taking Tebowmania one day at a time. On the bright side, at least Tebow is doing all he can to improve his mechanics and has completed over 50 percent of his passes the last two games–which is impressive for him.

One Rant to “John Elway Still Not Sold On Tim Tebow As Broncos ...”

  1. Steven Resnick says:

There’s no chance that Tebow remains starter if he can’t throw a pass in the NFL, he has no future. If the Broncos don’t make the playoffs and decide to make a trade to get in the top three of the draft by trading Elvis Dumervil Elway would be smart to do it because they have Von Miller to take over as no.1 defender on the team.

If the Broncos can have the chance to draft Matt Barkley they’d be set, they’d have a quarterback that could actually complete a pass.
