It was only a matter of time before New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski set the single-season record for most touchdown catches by a tight end considering he’s been nearly impossible to contain against opposing defenses. On Sunday, Gronkowski made a name for himself in NFL history by catching his 14th touchdown pass of the season against the Washington Redskins and with three more games still remaining–it’s safe to say Gronkowski will most likely continue adding to his new record.

Gronkowski hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady in the first quarter of Sunday’s game that gave the Patriots a 14-3 lead at the time. San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates and San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis were the previous holders of the record of 13, but Gronkowski now holds the record all by himself after Sunday’s game.

In just his second season, Gronkowski has emerged into one of the most dangerous pass-catching tight ends in the NFL and is turning into one of the biggest steals of the 2010 NFL Draft. There was a reason why the Patriots were willing to use a second-round pick on this guy and it’s safe to say the other 31 teams are kicking themselves over passing on the former Arizona star.
