Jackson was recently tagged as a franchise player by the Eagles who had yet to decide what to do with Jackson prior to the start of the free-agency negotiation period.  It appears now that the tag was applied so Jackson would not test the open free agent market, and the team would be required to match offers he received.

Eagles coach Andy Reid released the following statement to the press:

We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL‘s top play makers in Philadelphia. DeSean is a game breaker, he has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offense. Signing our own players was a big priority for us this off-season and DeSean was certainly high on our list. We are very excited about his future as an Eagle.

Now that money’s no longer in question for DeSean Jackson, it’ll be interesting to see which way he goes.

So many before have gotten similar pay days only to fade out and become less productive as a whole.

Will Jackson do the same, or rise to the occasion and prove he is indeed one of the league’s best wide receivers?
