NFL Rumors: Roy Williams Headed to Houston Texans?
Bruce Kluckhohn-US PRESSWIRE

There are plenty of big name wide receivers out there who are still looking for work. Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress are still trying to find a team to take a chance on them, but fellow free agent Roy Williams may have an opportunity to join a team soon.

The former Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears receiver has gotten himself a workout with the Houston Texans, which is reportedly scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The Texans lost Jacoby Jones to the Baltimore Ravens this offseason (how ironic, considering he made the crucial mistake in their playoff game), so they are thin at wide receiver behind incumbent starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter.

Behind them are a host of one and two-year players, none with more than two years experience in the NFL. Williams would not have much of a challenge getting a spot on the roster, as long as he proves he still has enough left in the tank.

Williams has been a shell of his former self since leaving the Lions. In his time with the Cowboys and Bears the past four seasons, he has not gone over 600 yards receiving in a season. He only has one 1,000 yard season, and that was with the Lions in 2006.

The Texans likely don’t have any pipe dreams of him starting for them, but he could definitely contribute as the team’s fourth target behind Johnson, Walter, and tight end Owen Daniels.
