NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys To Work Out Center Jamaal Jackson
Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

With the latest injury to the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, the team maybe on the verge of adding some depth. Starting center Phil Costa injured his back on Friday and the Cowboys have decided to bring in veteran center Jamaal Jackson for a workout. If things go well it looks as if the Cowboys will finally have some experience at the center position.

Jackson is an 8-year veteran who has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and signed briefly with the New York Giants before leaving after just one day.

The Cowboys have now lost their starting center Costa, as well as his two main competitors for the staring job in Kevin Kowalski and Bill Nagy to injury. While Nagy and Kowalski are out for the preseason, Costa is not expected to miss much time. The Cowboys have been experimenting with other options at center before deciding on bringing Jackson in for a tryout.

This is a necessary move for a team that desperately needs to solidify their offensive line to keep Tony Romo upright and Jason Garrett knows it. “That’s a daily thing. We’re always looking at the list of guys who are available, who become available, who might be available on a team that has a glut of players at a particular position … You’re always doing that and trying to evaluate and see what the best decision is.”

For the Cowboys the best decision was to bring someone in to help out a decimated spot on the offensive line.
