NFL Rumors: Olympic Sprinter Jeff Demps Expected to Sign With Team
Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

Former Florida Gators running back Jeff Demps has done what many can only dream of accomplishing – playing college football with a premiere program and earned an Olympic silver medal. Now it appears Demps’ athletic career is just getting started…at the professional level, anyway.

On Wednesday, Demps’ agent, Daniel Rose, said “seven or eight” NFL teams are interested in signing Demps.

“I’m excited because it’s a good story,” Rose said. “The guy goes to the Olympics to pursue one of his dreams and he succeeded. Now, he wants to go win a Super Bowl.”

That list reportedly includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, for which Tim Tebow, Demps’ former college teammate, plays. The other teams on the list are also wise to consider Demps, or any man that can run 100 meters in under 10 seconds for that matter.

During four years with the Gators, Demps rushed for 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns, spending the final two years with Tebow and winning the BCS National Championship in their first year together, Demps’ freshman season and Tebow’s junior campaign. Demps is the only athlete in Gators history to win national championships in multiple sports; he won the 60-meter dash at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and then won the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships three months later.

All of that led to Demps running a leg on the USA’s 4×100-meter relay team that took second place in the 2012 London Olympics. Although he publicly “gave up” football in January to focus on track, Demps now chases a Super Bowl ring and, with his speed, he just might outrun everyone else in the race.
