NFL Rumors: Are the Dallas Cowboys the latest team interested in Jordan Shipley?
Andrew Weber: US Presswire

Just a day after the Cincinnati Bengals waived wide receiver Jordan Shipley, a few teams have been thrown out as having shown interest in the 3rd year player out of The University of Texas.

Today, rumors are surfacing that the Dallas Cowboys could be showing some interest as well.

From Nick Eatman’s twitter page:

Sounds like the Cowboys have some interest in recently-cut WR Jordan Shipley. We’ll see if they put a claim since they do have a roster spot

The Cowboys are indeed in desperate need of a third wide receiver with no one stepping up and grabbing the spot. Additionally, there is some concern regarding Miles Austin’s nagging hamstring injury and Dez Bryant being prone to injuries over the last season as well. The position is most definitely one of the biggest question marks for Dallas heading into the season.

Going after Shipley would be a gamble; however, it wouldn’t be a huge risk, and it could be one that pays off.

Shipley demonstrated his potential as one of the best college receivers in the country while playing for the Texas Longhornsand he followed it up with a promising rookie season in the NFL in which the 6’0″, 189-pound receiver had 52 receptions for 641 yards and 3 touchdowns (averaging 11.5 ypr).

However, last fall, Shipley suffered a season ending ACL tear and underwent reconstructive surgery on his knee.

The talent is certainly there; he just needs to find a way to stay healthy.

Though it may take another season for Shipley to be back to full speed, he would be a good gamble for a team that has the room.

The Dallas Cowboys just need to decide if they want to take a chance on the receiver. They’ve been looking, unsuccessfully, for a slot receiver for the last 3 or 4 years; this could be their chance to finally get one. At this point, what else have they got to lose?
