Turner's coaching career with the Chargers started off as a success. San Diego made it to the AFC Championship game, but lost to a 17-0 New England team. San Diego lost to the eventual Super Bowl XLIII champion Pittsburgh Steelers the following playoff year, but their inconsistent play has led to a 17-15 record, no playoff wins and no playoff appearances since the 2009 season.
