David Carr to the 49ers, It Makes Sense
[picappgallerysingle id="6781077"]
The San Francisco 49ers brought in David Carr for a visit on the first day of free agency. This was not a move anybody expected. In fact no one really seems too happy about it. Patrick Willis cried out against the move on his official twitter account. He quickly apologized to everyone he offended and said that if Carr is on his team he will embrace him.
P-Will is my favorite player but he is missing it here. Bringing in David Carr will ideally be a defensive move. David Carr is a prototypical quarterback. Shaun Hill is not. This hurts the 49ers defense during practice. It’s the backup QB’s job to simulate the opposing teams QB when the defense prepares for the game. With Hill’s limited physical ability, he hurts us when we face a QB that the defense is not familiar with.
This move is also a vote of confidence in Alex Smith. The 49ers are committed to using a system that Alex Smith will thrive in. To implement a system you have to find guys that fit that system. Shaun Hill doesn’t have the athletic ability to fit the hybrid spread offense that the 49ers want to use. This really hurts us. If Alex gets hurt mid-game we have to change the whole game plan to fit Shaun Hill. If we pick up Carr he can learn the system, making the transition from Carr to Smith as smooth as it can be.
A guy like Shaun Hill is a great story when he is the starter, but as a back up he hurts us.
Here is Tim Kawakami completely disagreeing with me, but he has some more P-Will Quotes.

Total non-sense. TK is right. Shaun Hill was never given the chance to show his real ability. Mike Simgletary is a joke at coach. Hill lost his job mid season because the offense became so preditable, and other teams caught on. Run – run – pass. Run – run – pass. After week 5, Hill was always passing on 3rd and 8. Hill is the only 49er QB with a winning record in a long time. He needs to start, or trade him somewhere where he is wanted and the 49ers can continue to lose. Heck, I’ll take him on my team anyday!
Well the whole Mike Singletary being a joke if ridiculous. Shaun had 16 games to show his ability. As far as the play calling I agree that it was predictable but most of that was due to Hill’s limitations.
