The San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 thanks to a Pablo Sandoval home run on Jackie Robinson Day at Chase Field.

In honor of Robinson, every player wear No. 42 on his jersey.

The Giants jumped out to an early lead on a three-run jack by Sandoval in the top of the first.

Sandoval’s shot came with two outs and also plated Freddy Sanchez and Buster Posey, who had reached via singles.

San Francisco bolstered their lead by adding a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Sandoval led off the fourth with a walk before eventually coming home on a double by Miguel Tejada.

In the fifth, Aubrey Huff walked with one out and Posey singled, advancing Huff to second.

Then, things got a bit crazy on a Sandoval strikeout.

From MLB Gameday’s Play-by-Play:

Pablo Sandoval strikes out swinging. Aubrey Huff steals (1) 3rd base. Aubrey Huff scores. Buster Posey to 3rd. Buster Posey steals (2) 2nd base. Buster Posey advances to 3rd. Throwing error by catcher Miguel Montero.

Gameday clearly made an error — it is highly doubtful Posey went to third then stole second, but you get the idea: This was no ordinary run.

The five runs were more than enough for starter Matt Cain, who was only charged with one run in 6+ innings of work.

In fact, Arizona did not score until the seventh.

Cain was pulled after he surrendered a double to Stephen Drew and hit Melvin Mora with a pitch.

After a second pitching change, Drew scored on a sacrifice fly by Willie Bloomquist.

The Diamondbacks would add one more run when Bloomquist singled home Montero in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late for Arizona.

This game gives Cain a 2-0 record and 1.42 ERA.

The series will continue 5:10 p.m. PT today with a lefty-on-lefty matchup as Barry Zito (0-1, 5.56) takes on Joe Saunders (0-1, 6.00).
