San Francisco Giants Lose Game, Buster Posey in Twelfth
The San Francisco Giants made a great comeback in the bottom of the ninth only to lose the game and their catcher in the twelfth.
The Marlins got on the board quickly with two runs in the first.
The Marlins got four hits in the frame, including a run-scoring single by Gaby Sanchez and RBI double by Mike Stanton.
The Giants tied things up with two of their own in the third.
First, Miguel Tejada led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Bumgarner and scored on an Andres Torres double.

In turn, Torres advanced to third on a base hit by Freddy Sanchez. When the Marlins attempted to pick off Sanchez, Torres raced home, getting credited with a steal.

Florida took back the lead in the fifth.
Chris Coghlan doubled, stole third and came in on a Hanley Ramirez groundout.
The Marlins extended the lead to four runs by adding three in the ninth.
Two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Stanton, who doubled all three runners home.
The Giants came back with four runs to tie the game once more.
Nate Schierholtz opened the inning with a single. He went to third on a one-out double by Miguel Tejada. Then, he scored on a passed ball by John Buck. Next, Tejada scored on a Pat Burrell single.
Sanchez doubled with two outs to move Burrell to third. Both scored on a single by Aubrey Huff.

The game remained tied until the top of the twelfth. But the loss of the game paled in comparison to a far more devastating loss suffered by the Giants.
Guillermo Mota came on after two scoreless innings by Brian Wilson.
He gave up two singles and induced a force out to put runners at the corners with one out.
Emilio Bonifacio came up next and hit a fly ball to right. Schierholtz fired the ball back to Buster Posey as Scott Cousins came barreling in from third.
Posey was unable to keep hold of the ball, dropping it before turning to try to block the plate.
With part of the plate clear, Cousins drove directly into Posey.
The Giants catcher was obviously left in serious pain. After staying down for some time, he had to be helped off the field.

The aftermath was very difficult to watch, especially seeing the looks of agony on Posey’s face.
After the conclusion of that painful inning, Burke Badenhop came in and retired all three Giants he faced to end the game.
The report is that the problem is with Posey’s left ankle. He immediately was taken for X-rays, but the results have not yet been announced. He will also undergo an MRI.
Earlier, Mike Fontenot had to leave with a mild groin strain. Darren Ford is also out with a recent ankle sprain.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy discussed the loss and the ramifications of these injuries in a postgame press conference.

Sad what happened to Posey.
Yes, it is very sad. I knew right away it was really bad.
