Georgia RB Isaiah Crowell Jailed on Felony Weapons Charges
Dale Zanine-US PRESSWIRE

Georgia Bulldogs running back Isaiah Crowell has been nothing but a disappointment– at least off the field– for Mark Richt and the Georgia coaching staff.

Crowell was arrested overnight in Athens, Georgia on three weapons charges– two of which are felonies. The sophomore was booked in the Athens-Clarke County Jail around 3:30 this morning on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon in a school zone, and an altered ID mark– which suggests he had scratched the serial numbers off of one of the weapons.

It’s assumed, especially due to what is stated in the Georgia Student Code– that Mark Richt’s hand will be forced to suspend Crowell immediately, and indefinitely, from any activities with the university’s football team.

If this turns out to be the case, Crowell could go down as one of the biggest disappointments in recent history for a program that’s looking to finally get over the hump not only in the SEC, but in a run toward it’s first national championship since 1980.

Crowell rushed for 850 yards and five carries in a season that was punctuated both by injuries and two suspensions– once for a failed drug test in November 2011 and another one-game suspension for an unspecified disciplinary punishment in October of the same year.

The Georgia Bulldogs have their first legitimate chance at a National Championship run this fall in the Mark Richt era and just cannot continue to deal with off-field distractions in-season and the negative PR hit that comes along with them.

It seems to me that it’s a no-brainer for the Bulldogs to let Isaiah Crowell hit the bricks assuming the allegations are proven to be true.
