In what is becoming the usual news for the late winter months, legendary Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs signed a one-year contract extension, ensuring yet another year of what has been nothing short of a remarkable career.
While most have retired, taken up coaching, or playing in the Sunday leagues at his age, Giggs, 38, continues to play a crucial role for England’s most successful club team. No he is no longer capable of playing every match of a schedule that includes four competitions. And you might not see something like this anymore, but Giggs can still be considered one of United’s and the Premierships elite midfielders.
With all his accolades, none is more remarkable that this: Giggs is the only player to score in EVERY Premier League season. That is 20 seasons to date. He also had a scoring streak of 11 seasons in the Champions League.
From age 17 to 38, Giggs has been a machine for United. Giggs has 629 league appearances, most in Red Devil history, and has scored 111 goals to date. Overall he has 898 appearances across all competitions. Giggs has scored 162 goals, 9th most in Manchester United history, just one back of Mark Hughes.
Giggs has been instrumental in developing United youngsters in recent times in addition to providing a calm presence and extraordinary passing game while on the pitch.
