Soccer: Racism is Getting Out of Control, British PM Wants it Resolved.
GEPA/US PRESSWIRE

European football is so passionate that the fans have been known to take it a little overboard.

In London, the racism towards players has gotten out of hand, in fact it has for years. The problem is no one has tried to step up and make a change. Sure, there have been security measures to control it but, security guys can’t be everywhere.

The Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, has approached soccer officials, former players, and anti-racism campaigners warning that abusive behavior by soccer stars is imitated by youngsters and must be stopped. The government announced Wednesday it will give $4.7 million toward the English Football Association’s new coaching center in a bid to encourage more people from ethnic minorities to become managers. There are no black managers in the Premier League.

In America we don’t deal with the issues as much as the rest of the world does. It is sad when you hear about shootings, stabbings, and fighting over the result of a soccer game. It brings us all sadness when we hear about racism. It is such an important thing to stop, but trying to fix it can be the hardest thing to do.

Earlier this month there were fatalities at a soccer game over the result, and now in a different part of the world the PM of Britain is stepping up and trying to change the way soccer is handled by fans. Maybe they should consider moving the stadium seats back a little bit. If you see the games, the fans are so close to the field that if they were to yell at the players, or even throw things it wouldn’t be that hard for them to do so. I understand that having the fans that close makes for a great experience for the fan and players, but is it worth it when you are being constantly heckled by the opposing teams fans, not by the way you play but how you look.

Europeans care for their soccer like we care for our football over here. We have some passionate football fans that can be a bit scary and out of control(Raiders). However, how often do you hear fans losing it and calling out people’s race? If that happened here would it be tolerated?

The answer is no way, we have all come to adapt the right way of harassing an opposing team. We have learned the right way and wrong way of doing so, something that maybe European fans need to learn from.
