Algerian Artist Adel Abdessemed Creates Sculpture of Zidane Headbutt

An installation at David Zwirner gallery in New York called “Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf,” by Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed, contains a sculpture of the famous headbutt that Zinedine Zidane delivered to Italian player Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final. The action caused Zidane to be sent off with a red card, completely altering the match. The sculpture, called coup de tête, “speaks to the themes of violence, aggression and spectatorship present throughout the exhibition,” according to this review.

The exhibition will be at David Zwirner until March 17th.
