Three Quotes that Sum Up the Weekend in the Premier League

By Eric Imhof

1. “We looked a wee bit tired.”

Kenny Dalglish, following Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Wigan at Anfield

Dalglish complained that ‘Pool’s success in simultaneous tournaments attributed to the team’s fatigue (and two straight in-league losses—both uninspired drops to quite mediocre teams) as of late. According to this piece in The Guardian, Dalglish explained that “the problem was compounded by television schedules stipulating that the Carling Cup winners had had to play three matches in six days, starting with the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Stoke last Sunday and followed by league defeats by Queens Park Rangers and now Wigan.”

2. “They’ve got some tough games. They’ve got Man City at home, Chelsea at home. It’s all to play for still.”

Harry Redknapp, talking about Arsenal’s remaining schedule and Tottenham’s chances of overtaking them to recapture third place

Spurs drew with Chelsea over the weekend, but have been in somewhat of a slump as of late, blowing a ten-point lead over rival Arsenal in the Premier League table. Tottenham play Swansea on Saturday, April 1st, and then Sunderland the following Saturday. Both games are crucial for Redknapp’s side, and neither will be particularly easy. Arsenal play QPR next, and then City.

3. “I think it was probably my best one.”

Peter Crouch, on his two-touch volley that struck home against City

The Stoke City striker told the BBC: “When the ball dropped, I tried to pop it up and try a volley technique. I do it a lot and practice it, though they don’t always fly in like that!” The goal put Stoke up 1-0 on City, who, although able to draw level later in match, lost crucial points in the title race against Manchester United. The two teams are now tied in points with United holding a game in hand.
