An Everton Return Would Please Landon Donovan

By Alan Dymock

LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan today reinforced his desire to return to English Premier League stalwarts Everton… in some capacity.

Talking to FIFA’s website, the American forward said, “”I would absolutely like to come back. There’s no question about that. And I know I will be back at some point. Now, whether I’m back as a player or just as a fan, who knows?

“Right now, my focus is obviously on this season and qualifying for the World Cup. It’s a big, really important year, and then we’ll see what happens. I’ve always said the same thing: I’ll see how my body feels, I’ll see how I feel mentally, I’ll see where the Galaxy are at and what they’re okay or not okay with and then we’ll make a decision.”

Donovan has had two spells at Everton and the fans and manager, David Moyes, have obviously taken to him. Moyes is known to be wise with his transfer funds and if Donovan has a desire it is possible that a return to Goodison Park is on the cards for season 2012/13.

Acutely aware of what is going on in the EPL the subject of compatriot Clint Dempsey also came up. Donovan simply stated, “There’s no doubt this is the best season any American has ever put together in football.” High praise indeed.

Both of these players will want to play a part in USA qualifying for the World Cup, and while both have proven their worth there is always that battle to get their national side in the country’s consciousness and to climb up the international pecking order.

The next step in that climb starts on Sunday when the USMNT take on Scotland in a friendly.
