Since the January transfer window opened, Manchester United has found itself in the middle of more rumors than you’d expect from one team. When it comes to manager Six Alex Ferguson and Co., though, nothing is ever out of the question.

The latest name that has been linked to the Red Devils is that of Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who has garnered attention from a number of teams. The 25-year-old Belgian reportedly has a £22 million buyout clause in his contract, which has several top EPL clubs hoping to acquire his services.

Unfortunately for Manchester United and the rest of Fellaini’s potential suitors, it’s unlikely that Everton and manager David Moyes are ready to sell any of their players during the current transfer window.

“The plan is to keep all of our players,” Moyes said before Saturday’s showdown with Swansea City. “I wouldn’t be talking about anyone’s contract if I can help it, and I won’t do it now.”

Although Everton appear unwilling to part ways with Fellaini right now, Manchester United can certainly sow the seeds now that allow them to acquire the attacking midfielder when the time is right. Fellaini has shown an interest in leaving, but also doesn’t want to leave his current club hanging in the process. If Everton can find a reliable replacement before the next transfer window opens, the Red Devils could be in a prime position to bring Fellaini to Old Trafford.

There’s no denying that Fellaini would be a welcomed addition for Manchester United. He brings production, versatility and aggressiveness to the pitch, and would certainly help the Red Devils continue to assert their dominance on the EPL.

At this moment, it’s a waiting game. Don’t think that Six Alex Ferguson isn’t trying to pull some strings and see what kind of ground he can gain right now, though.
