David Beckham has been training with Arsenal whilst he has mulled over which club to sign for next.
However, Arsene Wenger has stated denied any chance of the former England captain signing for Arsenal despite the news.
Beckham, 37, decided against extending his LA Galaxy contract before the MLS Cup Final in December - which his side won 2-1.
Wenger, who now for the third time has allowed Beckham to train with the club, said;
“He called me. It’s purely for fitness. There’s no speculation about signing or anything. I believe that he’s come here purely on fitness purposes.”
“He has not done anything for a long, long time. He has asked to come here and to work on his fitness.”
Beckham has spent previous MLS off-seasons at London Coloney in 2008 and 2010, and it is no surprise that he is working on his fitness back in the comforts of his home city (also England’s former training ground). Press asked the Arsenal manager what his side will get out of this favor, to which he replied;
“Questions in a press conference! And to help somebody who I think deserves it.”
“We are open for people who behave well when they come here and who made a great service for English football – you always try to help.”
Wenger had allowed the club’s all-time top goal scorer Thierry Henry to train for the club in recent weeks but he has now returned to his MLS side New York Red Bulls.
Both, you’d expect would add inspiration of some kind and with David Beckham’s renowned career experience his prescene is likely to have given a positive effect in the camp.
Beckham who’s career has seen him play in England, Spain, Italy and America is yet to make his next decision but is believed to have interest from the likes of PSG and Monaco. More can be read regarding that here.
His son, Romeo is an Arsenal fan, and oldest son, Brooklyn has been trialing with Chelsea.
Arsenal fans won’t be disappointed by the news, but will by the fact that their club still haven’t added to their squad with just 2 days remaining in the transfer window;
Wenger had also commented on potential transfers, adding;
“In January, it’s very difficult to find players that strengthen the team when you are in our position.”
