Are Grant Holt’s Days As A Norwich City Regular Reaching Their Natural Conclusion?

It was a huge disappointment to every Norwich City fan to see Grant Holt have his injury time penalty saved in the game against Southampton. Of course, had the striker managed to convert his kick, then the Canaries would have won the game 1-0.

Norwich’s main striker has worked hard this season, but will be disappointed to have only registered five league goals, compared with the 15 he managed last season. But it has been a tireless job for him playing up front on his own for the majority of the season.

Age is obviously now also a concern and Norwich fans must be wondering how much longer they can rely on him. Kei Kamara and Luciano Becchio came to the club in the January transfer window, but neither one of them looks likely to be a long-term replacement for Holt.

Therefore, it’s likely that a young, proven goal-scorer will be a top target during the summer window. This is something that will surely lead to the club smashing their transfer record. But it’s important that extensive research is done. It is all too easy to spend a fair bit of money on average players.

Nevertheless, another look at the foreign market may produce that gem that they are looking for. It will also be interesting to see if the club renews their interest in Celtic’s Gary Hooper. I wonder how the SPL side feels about turning down the January offers now. I think it’s fair to say that his stock has fallen and the Canaries will now be less willing to throw significant cash around for the player.
