It was a red card many didn’t think was deserved. Others said it was the key moment in the shirt in momentum that allowed Real Madrid to defeat Manchester United in Champions League action. Whether they agree with the red card call or not, Nani was given a one game suspension. The suspension was announced in the same statement that Sir Alex Ferguson was fined for not speaking post-match.
A UEFA statement read: “Manchester United FC midfield player Nani has been suspended for one match by UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body; following the red card he received at the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg against Real Madrid CF at Old Trafford on 5 March.”
The red card was very controversial, and I don’t think it warrants a one game suspension. Most times than not, this same incident would be given a yellow card rather than a red card. Therefore, I think UEFA should have changed the card to a yellow card, but maybe that would have been salt in the wound for Manchester United fans. The suspension want affect them that much as they are well on their way to being back in the Champions League next year and winning the Premier League this year.
At this point, I think many fans have gotten over this, and are glad that Manchester City is in no position to win the EPL this year.
