USA Soccer: The Best Images From Remarkable Snow Day
USA vs Costa Rica - The snow game
The USA Soccer team's World Cup qualifier with Costa Rica was a vital fixture, but the weather conditions became the main talking point, creating extraordinary scenes. An incredible winter wonderland snow scene was created as a downpour arrived before the game, but most heavily during.
However, the snow didn't affect the home side, as the nation from the hotter region failed to cancel out Clint Dempsey's single goal for the USA.
Incredibly though, the game reached it's conclusion despite the elements' intervention. In the first half, it was fairly heavy but come the second half, both sides and all of those in Colorado were battling against what was effectively a blizzard.
Efforts were made to clear the pitch and especially the visibility of the line markings, but the game was basically played on several inches of snow.
"It was difficult out here to see anything," Dempsey said. "We were able to come together when we needed to."
German USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann's side required the vital three points for their push to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Despite the conditions, there was some impressive work all round from both goalkeepers and their slippery tasks, to the linesmen and their sharp eyed decision making despite the white blur.
Here are my best selection of images from the fixture from this weekend, where despite an incredible amount of snow, the game still somehow went ahead, rewarding the hosts with another crucial step towards sunny Brazil next summer.
