Despite Brad Friedel’s good form, he was dropped after Tottenham signed France captain Hugo Lloris. It was hard on Friedel, as he didn’t exactly make any serious errors, but the 41-year-old needed to be succeeded. Lloris, who was signed in the summer from Lyon, has impressed in the Premier League when he has been called upon, and is now the number one choice at White Hart Lane.

He’s earned a reputation as a ‘keeper-sweeper’, meaning his ability to ‘sweep up’ by charging out of his goal to intercept and clear from danger. This is a very important attribute for the modern goalkeeper, particularly in England, due to the speed of the game.

This importance is amplified by Tottenham’s high defensive line, which they’ve adopted from Andre Villas-Boas’ management.

Brad Friedel still deputizes in cup competitions, which is the correct choice. Tottenham should be keeping him involved in some way, he’s an excellent choice for a back up ‘keeper. His consistency is incredible, illustrated by his astonishing run of playing 310 consecutive Premier League games.

Tottenham face a massive battle against Manchester City on Sunday. And Lloris will be kept busy during the game, as there will be periods where Tottenham comes under massive pressure. City’s retention of the ball is very accomplished with players like David Silva and Yaya Toure. Spurs should have Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon fit for the game, which would be massive for the Lilywhites

Arsenal heaped pressure on Tottenham by winning 1-0 at Fulham. Spurs currently sit five points behind Arsenal, but have two games in hand.
