A Champions League race and a relegation battle are two of the things that will be affected one way or another on Saturday when Wigan host Tottenham at the DW Stadium.

Wigan are pretty much acclimatized to these ‘six-pointers’ at this particular stage of the season. It seems every year they cheat death and remain in the Premier League. The form they produced at the end of last season, which included wins over Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle were stunning.

It’s not too unfamiliar  for Tottenham to be in their situation either. For the last few years they’ve been battling for a top four spot year in, year out.

It’s an intriguing encounter between two teams who like the free-flowing game and play aggressive, swift attacking football. Tottenham have key players coming back from injury, which could make a massive impact on the game.

The pace which Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon run at will test Wigan’s defense, who aren’t exactly the tightest. Tottenham will be pumped up after a massive win over Manchester City, a win which came from nowhere with Spurs 1-0 down for the majority of the game.

Tottenham should have a solid enough defense and enough guile and craft to bag a win against Wigan. Tottenham currently sit behind Chelsea on goal difference, and two points behind third-placed Arsenal. The game in hand over the Gunners is critical for Tottenham. Unfortunately, that game in hand is away to Chelsea, in what is a potential Champions League shootout.
