If the rumors are to be believed, and admittedly there are some rather potent ones drifting around the information super-highway, the agent of Danish maestro Christian Eriksen was invited to Anfield to watch Liverpool entertain Chelsea recently.
The reasoning for this invite could have been purely on an entertainment basis, but it seems more likely that the purpose of Martin Schoot‘s visit was to discuss a potential transfer for Eriksen in the summer. However, I must stress this is just speculation at this point.
Should Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool’s recruitment department be able to tempt Eriksen to join their project, it would be a transfer coup up there on a scale with Middlesbrough‘s poaching of Fabrizio Ravanelli.
To put this coup into perspective, Eriksen has been courted by the European superpowers and is on the radar of Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan and Real Madrid among others.
At first glance, it would seem that Liverpool would be a much less attractive proposition for the Dane rather than the bright lights of Madrid or Barcelona. However, with the arrival of Eriksen’s agent at Anfield, it looks like the Merseyside club have made a preemptive move for Eriksen.
Ajax’s press officer issued a statement previously having to deny any deal had been done with Liverpool for Eriksen, yet the appearance of Schoot at Anfield now only adds fuel to the already-smoldering rumor fire.
The air is rife with transfer rumor, conjecture and speculation at the minute but the more snippets of information, and the more well-placed tabloid sources that continue to add to this story only increases the likelihood of something happening soon.
Rodgers is sure to be coy on any potential links to players when asked, but with the amount of noise being made by the media about Eriksen joining Liverpool, there surely has to be a grain of truth somewhere here, no?
