The news that every Liverpool fan had dreaded over the last few weeks has recently broken with an admission by striker Luis Suarez that he wants to leave the Merseyside club.
Suarez has been unsettled ever since the racism incident concerning Patrice Evra and the biting storm concerning Branislav Ivanovic, and has reportedly told a Uruguayan press conference that his time at Liverpool is at an end.
Yet, that may not be the end of it and there are signs that this is a transfer saga in the making. The reason for this is that even if Suarez wants to leave, there is absolutely no indication from the Liverpool hierarchy that it will happen anytime soon.
Liverpool has repeatedly insisted that they will swat away bids for their striking talisman and immediately after this news about Suarez broke, the club were quick to counter with a statement that said:
“Luis Suárez is not for sale. Neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool Football Club. The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honor his contract. We will not be making any further comment at this stage.”
So regardless of whether Suarez hands in a transfer request, it seems Liverpool will force the forward to honor his contract. To be brutally honest, they have stood by him through everything, and Suarez owes Liverpool another year in my opinion.
I am certainly not naive enough to think that he couldn’t force a move if he wanted, but if he really has any decency left, he should stay for another year and then come to a mutual understanding after that.
