Real Madrid‘s club president Florentino Pérez says he wants to turn the Santiago Bernabeu into an architectural landmark, as well as the club’s main source of income.
The club is looking to produce a vast increase in income by creating a new look for the Bernabeu, which the club hope to renovate in the future. Perez stated that an extra €120 million per year in the desired figure needed. It is predicted that Madrid will get around €60 million for its business and property investment.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, “the club currently receives around €160 million a season for operations at the stadium, but this includes ticket sales and season-tickets, and does not form part of the new budget.”
The plans are to apparently to add a variety of shops and business around the stadium in hopes that they can produce a large amount of revenue from fans and visitors.
It is also reported that plans for a hotel attached to the stadium have been proposed. The main reason behind the improvements at the Bernadbeu are due to the decrease in TV revenue in the coming years, which will mean more importance placed on alternative revenue streams for the bigger clubs in Spain.
Madrid will almost be required to make their home into one of their main sources of income for both match day, but more importantly, during the week and pre-season.
