Young Spanish forward Luis Alberto is apparently in Merseyside right now, undergoing an exhaustive medical assessment ahead of a proposed move to Liverpool FC for a reported £6 million.

The Daily Express is reporting that Alberto has only to agree to personal terms and pass a medical before he is announced as Brendan Rodgers‘ second official summer signing. The former Sevilla winger fits the bill perfectly for Liverpool, as he is only 20 years old with a potential high sell on value.

I have been able to study videos of Alberto ever since he first began to get linked with a move to Liverpool and have been impressed with his movement, potential and finishing. He appears cool and composed in front of the goal, something that really can’t be taught, and will no doubt help him when he’s bearing down on goals in the Premier League.

Liverpool has had a huge amount of success in recent years with Spanish players, and they will be hoping that success continues following the acquisition of Alberto. Where Alberto will play of course will hinge on whether Luis Suarez sticks around next season, which admittedly isn’t looking likely. Suarez has made it clear he wants to leave England due to the press hounding him, but he may yet be priced out of a move by the club; Liverpool’s determination is to hang onto their prized asset.

Alberto has the ability to play as a central striker, out wide left or behind the forward, so it makes him incredibly versatile in terms of slotting into the team immediately. With the impending addition of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo as another forward option, Liverpool will soon be able to call on a wealth of attacking talent to help the team become more creative, something that the team has been sorely lacking, especially on the left flank.

Could Alberto be the player to help Liverpool force their way back into the Champions League? Only time will tell.
