The Brazilian international center back and captain, Thiago Silva, has upped his form in recent years by leading the back line of his teams to many clean sheets as well as victories.
At AC Milan, he made a difference by making sure the team stayed constructive on the defensive end throughout the 90 minutes. His vision and ability to control his teammates’ positioning to make vital stops from the opposing teams in their own final third was crucial in the team’s performances.
Due to his play in Italy, French giants Paris Saint Germain knocked on his door and immediately brought him to the French Ligue 1. There, he was chosen as captain and in his first and only year thus far, PSG won the league title for the first time since 1994. Clearly, his addition to the team brought a much needed discipline that was never there before.
Now, after a successful spell in Milan and debut in Paris, reigning La Liga champions FC Barcelona are after his signature.
Barca’s defense allowed seven goals against Bayern Munich over two legs in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Pique, who is widely considered their top defender, had an awful series against the German champions. Therefore, a new addition is needed.
Silva can come into this squad and immediately captain the back line. He played very well against Spain for Brazil in the Confederation’s Cup final, so he should be fine on a weekly basis in that league. He will fit right in.
Reportedly, Silva has agreed to personal terms with Barca on a five-year deal, but the clubs have yet to come to terms as well to make the deal happen.
