The Turkish Super League brings us one of the most mouth-watering clashes this Monday between Trabzonspor and Rizespor. Known as the Black Sea Derby, we have not had the privilege of watching this league meeting since the 2007-08 season due to Rizespor playing in the next best division for the past five seasons.

The last time these two met, the final score read 4-0 in the favor of visiting Trabzonspor inside Rize’s stadium. However, that was then and this is now. This will be the first time in five years that the two teams meet in a top-flight league match and it is promising to be extremely exciting.

Everyone thinks of GalatasarayFenerbahce and Besiktas when thinking of Turkish derbies but not too many realize how important the significance of the Black Sea rivalry. Both sides are capable of playing in this league but Trabzon has a roster that can guarantee a top-four finish. Rize on the other hand will be lucky to stay in this league.

One huge surprise made by the city that makes tea (Rize) is the signing of Under-20 WC Iraqi captain Ali Adnan, who wears the No. 53 — which is the city’s number — on his jersey. At left back, he is expected to defend and attack down that flank. He will or should be responsible for taking corner kicks and free kicks for his new club. If anyone should have a good game at Trabzon it is certainly the 19 year old.

Prediction: Trabzonspor 3-1 Rizespor — The home side will prove to be too strong with a plethora of opportunities forcing a few mistakes for the visitors who will find a goal from one of its strikers.
