Manchester United has made yet another brilliant move in extending Nani’s contract by five years, keeping the Portuguese international winger at the club till 2018.
Coach David Moyes was thrilled with the deal, as he believes the player has skill and experience beyond his years.
Judging by the way he has played in recent years, he is right.
He doesn’t score the most goals and certainly doesn’t rack up the most assists, but his presence on the field, whether it be on the right or left flank, is of utter importance. His speed, skill and ability to cross the ball or cut in and let the ball rip is essential to the team.
United plays a traditional 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1, where RVP is up and Nani and Valencia rule the left and right wings respectively. That speed, skill and vision are a danger to opponents of all sorts. If those three guys are on their game, the team’s offense is absolutely top notch. If these three learn how to play with one another on a weekly basis, they can easily defend their league title, and go far in the Champions League.
Now, he is also a very important piece on the Portuguese national side with Cristiano Ronaldo. Arguably, those two are the most important and best wingers the nation has to offer. The team has not been as dominant as they could be, but if Nani plays on top of his game with the other big names on board, they can win their WC qualifying group ahead of Russia, as expected, and perform well in the WC next summer.
