Premier League: Everton-Chelsea Preview

This weekend will bring us an exciting Premier League match-up between Everton and Chelsea from good old Goodison Park.

This will be a tightly-contested game. There will, however, be a huge missing piece in Everton midfield in Marouane Fellaini, who recently departed to play for Manchester United. He was the holding midfielder who controlled that middle third and at times even distributed the ball and scored crucial goals with his head. He was certainly considered a fan favorite.

That said, there is a young rising star named Ross Barkley, who keeps showing signs of promise. The fans are hoping that he can fill in the Belgian’s (Fellaini) vacant shoes. At the age of 19, the kid has a bright future if he can stay healthy.

At the other end, Chelsea will look to take advantage of the absence of Fellaini by playing their smart, strong and decently quick game with their players at hand. Eden Hazard and new signings Willian and Samuel Eto will provide the speed and skill required. The latter of the two is expected to debut in the game.

Both teams play a version of the 4-4-1-1 which they both like to convert to a 4-2-3-1. These are primarily focused on defending and countering, but that extra bit of skill by either side’s creative players can prove to be the difference.

Prediction: Everton 1 — Chelsea 2. Both sides will create several chances, but the visitors will find a way be victorious in this tough visit.
